The University of Hawai'i Wind Ensemble has been invited by the College Band Directors National Association to perform at the 2016 CBDNA Western/Northwestern Conference in Reno, Nevada. The UH Wind Ensemble will tour in March 2016, performing in Reno and giving public concerts in the California Bay Area.
The UH Wind Ensemble (the premier wind band at UH-Mānoa, featuring the finest wind and percussion student musicians from across the campus) is one of only nine groups selected by audition to perform at the Western/Northwestern CBDNA Conference, which represents collegiate and university band programs from the eleven western United States.
The UH Wind Ensemble will also visit several schools in the Bay Area for workshops and performances. These outreach clinics will provide an opportunity for our UHM students to work as mentors, teaching young musicians in masterclasses and collaborating with them in performance.
This is an opportunity for our UH Wind Ensemble to perform on the national stage; to share music and composers from the Pacific Rim with a wide audience; to interact with and perform for college students & collegiate music groups from across the Western United States; and to work as mentors, teaching young musicians in masterclasses and collaborating with them in performance.
Taking a 50-piece wind band and our instruments to the mainland for this five-day concert tour will cost approximately $60,000, or $1,200 per student . We’d greatly appreciate any support you can give to make this wonderful opportunity a reality.
