UH DRUMLINE AUDITIONS
Friday August 16, 2019 9:00am – 12:00pm

SCHEDULE
Snare Group Audition – 9:00am
Tenor Group Audition – 9:45am
Bass Group Audition – 10:30am
Cymbal Auditions – 11:15am

Please be there by 9:00am even if you are not auditioning for Snare.

We will have group auditions for the Snare, Tenor and Bass sections. Everyone auditioning for these sections will play together during their specified times. We’ll rotate people in and out on the line making sure everyone has a chance to play on the drum. Basses should be familiar with all parts. Everyone will rotate and play all parts.

Cymbal auditions will be individual. Auditionees will need to clap thru a rhythm piece and display the ability to hold the cymbals properly.

If you audition for one section, you may be placed in a different section based on audition results. You can audition for multiple sections.

The drumline will be announced sometime after the Cymbal audition concludes. First 2019 UHDL rehearsal will be at 1:00pm.

UH Drumline Camp (in addition to band camp dates) -
Dates TBA

All rehearsals after auditions are mandatory. Please make all necessary arrangements to be there for all Drum Camp and Band Camp rehearsals. Work is not a valid excuse for missing Camp rehearsals. Check the band website for information about Band Camp and Drum Camp rehearsal dates and times.

Playing in the UH Marching Band is a year-long commitment. After the season, there are numerous Pep Band Games during the Spring Semester to play at. Failure to play during the Spring Semester will affect your eligibility for next year’s line.

About the Drumline

Here at the University of Hawai‘i we have a style that is all our own. Over the past 6 years we have distilled our sound to its current form, a highly groove-oriented drumline hell-bent on making the listener “nod their head.”

The drumline is here to cheer on our athletic teams with love, support and hot beats.  We are the tip of the spear in terms of fan participation at sporting events, a conduit of fan energy to the players on the field.  With our high-energy beats, we aim to galvanize the fans, cheerleaders, dancers and band into one voice cheering on Hawaii’s team.

WANT TO BE IN THE GAME?

As a member of the drumline, you are a part of the gameday experience!!!  From pep rallies to the Tailgate Jams, Pregame, playing in the stands, cheering, halftime and the postgame jam, the drumline is an integral part of the gameday experience from beginning to end.  People who come to the games are just spectators, the drumline is in the game.

UH Drumline Summer Workshops

More information coming soon!

UH Music Department Rm 108

These clinics will give you a chance to familiarize yourself with the audition music, find out more about the audition process, learn the UH Drumline approach and build chops. It is also a good chance to get to meet new people and make new friends. Bring sticks, a practice pad, your music, a pencil and earplugs. While the clinics are not mandatory, coming to a clinic will only help you in the audition process. A write-up of each clinic will be posted to the UHDL Audition Info Facebook group.

You can park in the Music Department Parking Lot after 4:00pm; just remember to pay the fee($6) either at the Booth leading into Lower Campus or at the kiosk in the parking lot. There is nearby street parking available on University Ave, please read signs as street parking changes depending on the time of day.
